HORATIO, VISCOUNT NELSON (1758-1805)
A one-page autograph letter (in 3rd person) to Captain [Richard] Thomas, from: "Victory," 8 October 1804, requesting him to receive a parcel from Mr. Falconet, and to enquire from Mr. Elliott's household, or from H.M. Chargé d'Affaires, about a case which was sent from Mr. Fagan, an artist at Rome to the Custom House at Naples for Lord Nelson (strengthened with tape at centrefold).

The parcel which Nelson was awaiting, no doubt with great impatience, would have contained letters from Lady Hamilton, who frequently sent her letters, usually several at a time, to M. Falconet, a French refugee, of Messrs, Gibbs, Falconet and Noble, bankers at Naples, to forwarded by safe hand to Nelson whenever an opportunity arose. Mr. Elliott, the newly appointed Minister to the Court of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, had sailed to Naples on the Amphion on Nelson's journey out to the Mediterranean Command the previous year. Robert Fagan, an Irish-born portrait painter, worked in Italy, and died at Rome in 1816.
