THE 2010 VINTAGE
The 2010 Bordeaux vintage is one of high acclaim, said to rival that of its predecessor and the flawless 2005. Whilst the 1st Growths were fantastic, this vintage also showed a lot of depth, with huge promise revealed further down the classification order. Of course, as any year, this vintage was not uniform, but many estates thrived, such as in Margaux and Pauillac. The growing season was extremely dry, which rendered the grapes small with thick tannins and a high concentration of juice. The warm summer elevated sugar levels in the grape, especially in the Médoc region. Whilst a high sugar level can be somewhat damaging for wine, this was offset by the cool nights in August and September which allowed the grapes to maintain high levels of acidity. The Bordeaux 2010 vintage therefore has excellent balance as well as freshness.
