THIBAULT LIGER-BELAIR
In 1720, Claude Marey, Mayor of Nuits St, founded the trading house of C.Marey in order to sell his own harvest of great wines. In 1852 Claude associated with his son-in-law Comte Louis Liger-Belair, owner of Grands Crus in Vosne-Romanée, forming C.Marey & Comte Liger-Belair. They were among the most important companies of wine growing and trading houses in Burgundy. The business was passed through the family, and in 2001, was taken over by Thibault Liger-Belair, thus creating Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair in Nuits St Georges. Thibault took back vines which had been contracted out to various share croppers and leased a cuverie. The vines (including parcels of Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot and Nuits St Georges Les St Georges) are all certified organic and farmed biodynamically.
