D.Bolger, Bual 1889
Madeira
Bottled from demi-john in 2020. New wax capsules with DB family seal. New stenciling. Levels: into-neck
Bottled from demi john in 2020. Coming from the Bolger family reserves, of the famous Torre Bella estate vineyards.
Tasting note: Deep ethereal high-toned nose of great concentration, aromas of old vintage furniture wax and gently sweetly spiced notes sing in your glass. The start of taste is calm and creamy then an explosion of dried apricots fills your mouth like an orchestra which sets in. Strong and at the same time so superbly balanced. Overwhelming and so refined. This is impressively cask aged, concentrated yet still with such a pretty acidity on the after taste that just lingers on. On the finish there is a touch of the finest new oak, an aroma you can find in highest quality French wines.
Then a year later on Porto Santo. A bit reductive at first, sweaty, clearly needing air. Smokey firestone note, quite high-toned. Only slightly showing fig fruit aromas. In all a quiet expression the nose. Fresh start of taste, showing its age, some brown apple notes and a touch spirity. On the final an explosion of rich peach fruits is fantastically bringing more attraction followed by a fine alcohol note. Very good wine.
