The European enamel plaques reflect the Qianlong Emperor's fascination with Western subjects, which appear on porcelain, snuff bottles and other imperial quality works of art produced during his reign. The art of painting on enamel in Europe was invented in Blois, France, and these plaques are possibly Blois school.
