Lot Essay

This example of turquoise monochrome porcelain is very much a Chinese taste scholars object with its naturalistic theme combined with the Taoist symbolism of the Ruyi fungus which is associated with long life and the immortals. See a comparable lingzhi-shaped vase but with a different glaze in the Musée Guimet, Paris, inv. no. G2868.
