A George III swing-handled cake or bread basket
of tapering oval form and on a spreading foot, decorated with a broad frieze of pierced slats and scrolls and with applied gadroon borders, the centre engraved with an armorial within a shield-shaped cartouche, a crest and patera, floral and foliate swags above, foliage beneath, the handle pierced with lozenges and with a vacant cartouche, the maker's mark apparently obliterated by the piercing, London 1776 - 13in. (33cm.), 24oz.
