A Victorian Gothic Revival five-piece tea and coffee service
of tapering octagonal form and on egg and dart bases, each finely-engraved with chinoiseries, pillars, squirrels and birds and with vacant cartouches and elaborate scroll handles, the coffee pot, teapot and afternoon teapot with panelled rising curved spouts and domed hinged covers with octagonal baluster finials, the spouted milk jug and the sugar basin gilt-lined, two of the pieces engraved with initials, Joseph & John Angell, London mainly 1841, the afternoon teapot 1843, each engraved with retailer's names: "Wordley & Mayer, Liverpool" - height of coffee pot 11¼in. (28.50cm.), 85.25oz.
