Lot Essay

The crest and motto are Hamilton of Dalzell presumably for General John Hamilton, 6th of Dalzell and 11th of Orbieston (1742-1834), a distinguished solider who fought in the army of the East India Company and in the Peninsula War. He was knighted and created a baronet. He was succeeded by his grandson in 1886.
