For a couch with closely related turnings at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, see Alexandra Alevizatos Kirtley, American Furniture 1650-1840: Highlights from the Philadelphia Museum of Art (Philadelphia, 2020), p. 42, cat. 5 and Jack L. Lindsey, Worldly Goods: The Arts of Early Pennsylvania 1680-1758 (Philadelphia, 1999), p. 113, fig. 179. The earliest known owner of this form is Albert Wine, most likely the individual of this name who was born in Russia in 1884, immigrated to American before 1908, when he married Lena Millman in Providence, Rhode Island, and subsequently lived in Los Angeles where he is recorded as a cabinetmaker in the 1940 census. The year before, the couch was part of a loan exhibition at the Los Angeles Museum, a precursor to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
