Lot Essay

This game cock weathervane's detailing, particularly in the abutting arcs in the tail, is seen in a c.1867-1872 broadside of the manufacturers Cushing & White of Waltham, Massachusetts. At 18 inches tall, this example is close to the 17-inch model advertised at $12.00 and may have been sold by the firm or around the same time by its precursor, A.L. Jewell & Co., or subsequent entity, L.W. Cushing & Sons.
