A study for this lithograph is preserved in the Musée des Augustins in Toulouse. In it, the figure of the male observer is clearly that of Charles Conder, the English artist who was a resident of Paris from 1890-1894 and who appears elsewhere in Lautrec's work. Behind the two figures in the picture on the wall a satyr confronts a nymph.
