Lot Essay

This poster was conceived as an advertisement for an interior design company. Toulouse-Lautrec transforms the scene into a parody of a doctor's visit. The 'modern artisan' arrives with a toolbox, escorted by the maid, ready to assist his ailing client in her boudoir. This is an early proof printed before the addition of text. Only two proofs in this state have come to auction in the past.
