This bronze was commissioned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Dubai and founder of Godolphin Stud farms to commemorate the 1985 victory of his filly Pebbles (1981-2005), ridden by Pat Eddery in the Breeders’ Cup Turf, which was the first time a British-trained horse had won the title.
Pat Eddery (1952-2015) was an Irish flat racing jockey and horse trainer. He rode three winners of The Derby, and was Champion Jockey on eleven occasions, as well as winning many notable races abroad including the Breeders' Turf Cup. He rode the winners of 4,632 British flat races, a figure exceeded only by Sir Gordon Richards (1904-1986).
