ANNE-LOUIS GIRODET DE ROUCY-TRIOSON, AENEAS AND THE BODY OF LAUSUS, BLACK CHALK
This sheet belongs to a series of drawings in black chalk that Girodet completed for an illustration of l’Énéide. Commenced in 1811, the collection remained unfinished at his death at age 57 in 1824, despite the existence of numerous lithographs completed by his students, including Marie-Philippe Coupin de la Couperie (1773-1851), Joseph Dassy (1796-1865) and Ferdinand Lancrenon (1794-1874).
