A Shibayama style gold lacquer foliate dish
decorated in hiramakie and nashiji and inlaid in ivory, mother of pearl and horn with a lady and attendant holding lotus sprays below two birds and an insect in flight within panels of ho-o and butterflies interspersed with cranes, quail and other birds among chrysanthemums, peonies and bamboo, on a ground of stylised birds and roundels -- 8¼in. (21cm) wide, inscribed cartouche to base, (small piece of inlay missing).
