Yixing ware with a painted decoration are very rare, especially with a figural scene. See a few examples of Yixing pieces painted with a floral decoration and bearing a Kangxi mark in the collections of the Palace Museum in Taipei, illustrated in K. S. Lo, Hong Kong, Hong Kong University press, The Stonewares of Yixing from the Ming period to the present day, 1986, figs. XLI, XLII, XLIII and XLIV, pp. 134-135. Compare the decoration with the depiction of Magu holding a vase on a Qianlong famille rose vase in the collection of the Palace Museum in Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures from the Palace Museum, Vol. 39, Hong Kong, The Commercial Press, 1999, cat. no. 93, p. 107.
