The oval figured top with double cross-banding encircled by linked inlaid ebonized beads and stringing, tilting above a turned tapered column with a gilt-metal collar of berried laurel leaves on inlaid down-curved legs, with printed and inscribed Ann and Gordon Getty Collection inventory label

By repute, Lord Newlands, Mauldslie Castle, Rosebank, Lanarkshire, bought at the sale of the castle in the early 1930s.
Thence by descent until sold anonymously; Sotheby's, London, 20 November 1992, lot 173, where sold as Regency and with reputed provenance.

This table imitates pieces by the esteemed Regency furniture-maker George Bullock (1777-1818), who had a very distinct style that often proudly incorporated locally sourced materials such as brown oak and walnut and looked to Antiquity for design inspiration.
