A BEJEWELED KINGFISHER FEATHER-EMBELLISHED HEADDRESS, CHAO GUAN
QING DYNASTY, LATE 19TH–EARLY 20TH CENTURY
The headdress is embellished with elaborate spring-mounted appliques inlaid with kingfisher feather of five phoenix with large pink tourmaline cabochons forming their bodies and two dragons centered on a flaming pearl, all hung with pearls, coral, and turquoise tassels, further embellished on the top with feather inlaid appliques of a basket of flowers below a bat and shou-medallion with flowering plants, butterflies, and fruits, the back with a panel of three blossoms, all supported on a woven black silk and wire frame.
