EARLY MUROMACHI PERIOD (14TH CENTURY), SIGNED BISHU OSAFUNE SHIGE (YOSHI-ILLEGIBLE) DATED MEITOKU SANNEN JUGATSUHI (OCTOBER 1392)
Configuration [sugata]: hon-zukuri with iori-mune; deep curvature
Forging pattern [jihada]: dense mokume with bo-utsuri
Tempering pattern [hamon]: gunome-midare with some ashi
Point [boshi]: small and rounded (ko-maru) with slight notare
Tang [nakago]: unshortened (ubu); file marks (yasurime): sloping (sujikai); end (nakagojiri): rounded (kurijiri); holes (mekugi-ana): two
Length from tip to beginning of tang [nagasa]: 61cm.; curvature 2.1cm.; width at start of tempered edge 2.9cm.; width before tip 2cm.
Collar [habaki]: single gilt-copper
In shirasaya (wood storage scabbard)
Mounting [koshirae]: Gold lacquered Itomaki tachi koshirae (sword mounting with cord-wrapped scabbard), the saya decorated with chrysanthemum and leaves crests in gold foil on a nashiji ground, metal fittings also bearing with chrysanthemum and leaves crests in gilt on shakudo nanako-ji, 88.5cm
