The round box set on a wide base rim, decorated in black takamaki-e imitating inlaid lead and inlaid mother-of-pearl with flying cranes in gold outline against red lacquer background representing rising sun, the interior designed with waves in gold hiramaki-e on nashiji ground, fitted with an ink stone and a shakudo waterdropper in the shape of a rock with gilt moss
