Paganinus de Paganinis, 1489
AUGUSTINUS, Aurelius (354-430). De trinitate. Venice: Paganinus de Paganinis, 12 November 1489.

Incunable edition of Augustine's treatise on the mystery of the Trinity. Prior to Augustine, much of the serious writing on Christian theology was produced in Greek and reliant on a fossilized system of philosophical jargon. Augustine brought a fresh treatment of these discussions to the Latin-speaking world, which his influence has dominated ever since. Chancery quarto (212 x 153mm). 92 leaves. (A few stains.) Modern half vellum over boards, retaining earlier manuscript waste flyleaves on vellum. Provenance: Carmelites of Modena (inscriptions and monogram stamp on several pages).
