The Macklin Bible—largest printed bible of its time, in magnificent contemporary English straight-grained morocco. This significant work is, “embellished with engravings, from pictures and designs by the most eminent English artists...” including F. Bartolozzi, J. Landseer, J. Heath, W.Skelton, W. Bromley and others after B. West, J. Opie, T. Stothard, W. Hamilton, De Loutherbourg, and others. Darlow & Moule 982.

Seven volumes, large folio (465 x 365mm). Half title in each volume, engraved dedication and printed list of subscribers in vol.I, 71 full-page engraved illustrations, 104 large engraved head- or tailpieces (scattered foxing, blank corner torn away in vol. VI; offsetting to some plates). Contemporary English straight-grained dark blue morocco gilt binding by Staggmeier & Welcher (rubbing to extremities and chips, spines lightly sunned). Provenance: Charles Moffat (bookplate) - Christie’s New York 5 September 1981, lot 99.
