The Manney copy of the first edition, second issue. Includes list of illustrations on page viii, “Vol. III” erased from all plates. Eckel 12; Gimbel/Podeschi A4; Smith 2.
Octavo. Half-title, 20-page publisher’s catalogue dated December 1836 at end. Frontispiece, additional illustrated title, and 8 etched plates by George Cruikshank (some toning to plates). Original blind stamped rose pink cloth, title and imprint gilt on spine in black cartouches, yellow coated endpapers (spine ends reinforced, light rubbing and fading). Custom chemise and slip-cover. Provenance: Richard Manney (bookplate; his sale, Sotheby’s New York, 11 October 1991, lot 76).
