A fine first edition of Wilde's moving epistle to his lover written from prison—with a presentation slip from editor and close friend of the author, Robbie Ross. Wilde was not allowed to send out and publish the manuscript from prison, but handed the manuscript to Ross upon his release. The present excerpted version was published by Ross after the author's death. This copy contains an ad catalogue dated earlier than the one described by Mason. Mason 389.
Octavo. Half title, 40pp. ad catalogue at end dated February 1905; printed compliment slip of Ross laid in. Original blue cloth gilt, with gilt emblem of imprisoned dove by Charles Ricketts, top edge gilt (light wear at extremities).
