Limited signed first edition in contemporary morocco gilt. No. 98 of 100 copies, signed by both the author and the illustrator. On hand-made paper. This, the first of the Pooh books, was also produced in the smallest deluxe edition and is especially desirable for both reasons. A very fine copy.
Quarto (220 x 174mm). Half-title. Partially unopened. Illustrations by Ernest H. Shepard. Contemporary full morocco by Best & Co, covers paneled with double gilt rules, floral stamps to corners, spine gilt in six gilt-ruled compartments, raised bands, gilt-lettered in two, floral device and dots stamped in black in the remaining, turn-ins stamped in gilt and black, marbled endleaves, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed (touch of sunning to spine). Provenance: Sotheby's New York, 7 December 1994, lot 198.
