細節
Founded in 1872, Domaine Ponsot celebrates its 150th year in 2022. To mark this occasion, we wished to share a few rare bottles with the great lovers of our wines.
Kept in our cellars for several decades, most of these wines have not been available to purchase since their initial release and some of the large formats have never been available on the market before and were bottled in extremely limited quantities.
We have also decided to offer the proceeds of a barrel of Clos de la Roche, “La Cuvée Hippolyte”, issued from a parcel acquired by our grandfather Hippolyte Ponsot in 1928 in the heart of the historic appellation of Clos de la Roche, to the charity “A Chacun son Everest”.
Founded in Chamonix in 1994 by Christine Janin, a doctor and mountaineer, A Chacun Son Everest accompanies children afflicted by cancer or leukaemia and women in remission from breast cancer in order to help them regain confidence, joy and a new lease on life at the foot of the Mont Blanc.
With these bottles, it is a slice of the Domaine which we entrust to you. We hope that you will experience a unique moment with this terroir and the generations of men and women who made possible what you will savour in your glass.

Domaine Ponsot
Christie’s is honored to celebrate the 150 year jubilee of Domaine Ponsot, one of the most important Domaines in Burgundy, via a unique once in a lifetime auction of library wines from the various exceptional terroirs of this legendary Morey Saint Denis wine family.
Almost two years ago when I was at the Domaine with Anthony Hanson MW, we raised the idea of this auction and all instantly agreed on the importance of such a unique event.
What started back in 1872 in St Romain via the acquisition of the famous Clos des Monts Luisants, is now an estate producing a Clos de la Roche considered to be one of the finest wines produced in the whole of Burgundy. Anyone who has had the chance to taste a mature Ponsot wine will testify to the greatness of these wines. With this in mind, we began planning this auction with great enthusiasm, as we knew this would be the opportunity for many collectors around the world to acquire these vinous treasures in the best possible condition, some of which have never been commercially released before.
From large formats of 2005 and 2009 Clos St Denis to Chambertin, via an unprecedented range of the legendary Clos de la Roche going back to the ever fantastic 1959 vintage, the sale concludes with a beautiful selection of vintages of the unique Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Clos des Monts Luisants Blanc back to the still superb 1961 vintage. One of the most unique lots is a barrel of 2022 Clos de la Roche Cuvée Hippolyte. This wine has never been released before and as I write this, the grapes are being harvested and are looking beautiful.
All the bottles that we have tasted from the Ponsot cellar in preparation for this auction have been in fantastic condition. We highly recommend you have a look at the lots in this unique auction and wish you all the best of luck with your bids.

A Brief History of Domaine Ponsot
1872 – Born in St Romain in the Côte d'Or, William Ponsot, having returned from the war in 1870, acquires a winemaking estate in Morey-St-Denis and settles there in 1872. His major plots are already those of the Clos des Monts-Luisants and a plot of Clos de la Roche.
He also farms, in a sharecropping arrangement with his cousin Grangier, Charmes-Chambertin.
1922 – It is in this year that his godson Hippolyte Ponsot takes charge of the estate. With the help of his brother Henri Ponsot, a diplomat who resides in Morocco and is French ambassador in many countries, he substantially increases the estate’s share of Clos de la Roche, right in the heart of the appellation.
1934 – From this vintage, all of the estate’s wine is bottled at the Domaine. This was extremely rare at the time and only about ten other Burgundian estates bottled their own wines before the Second World War. This vintage also marked the beginning of the commercialisation of their wines to the USA and many European countries.
1936 – A lawyer by training, Hippolyte Ponsot is one of the instigators of the vines of Burgundy being classified as Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (A.O.C.) in 1935 et 1936.
1942 – Jean-Marie Ponsot, Hippolyte’s son, begins to work at the estate alongside his father. Hippolyte retires from his work at the estate in 1957.
1960 – Basing his work on the selection of plants made by his father, Jean-Marie Ponsot becomes a pioneer of clonal selection in Burgundy during the 1960’s. Many highly regarded Pinot Noir clones (113, 114, 115, 667…) issue from mother stocks still planted in the estate’s plot of Clos de la Roche.
1961 – Beginning in this year, Jean-Marie Ponsot begins to work with, in sharecropping arrangements, parcels of Chambolle-Musigny, Chambertin and Latricières-Chambertin.
1962 – Jacqueline Ponsot Livera, Jean-Marie’s wife, inherits many parcels of Gevrey Chambertin and Chapelle Chambertin which get added to the estate’s holdings.
1981 – Laurent Ponsot begins to work alongside his father Jean-Marie. He establishes a new commercial system and expands the sale of the wines to 40 countries. He makes wine with a great sense of respect for authenticity.
This years also marks the addition of parcels of Griotte Chambertin, Chambertin, Clos St Denis and Chambolle Les Charmes from Domaine des Chézeaux in a further sharecropping arrangement, to the estate’s portfolio.
1997 – Jean-Marie Ponsot retires from the estate. Laurent runs the estate alongside his younger sister Rose-Marie and takes charge of the operational aspects of the estate until 2016.
2002 – Charmes Chambertin and Clos de Vougeot are now produced by the estate.
2009 - Corton Charlemagne, Corton, Corton Bressandes and Chambertin Clos de Bèze are now produced by the estate.
2017 – Laurent Ponsot leaves and Rose-Marie takes full control of the running of the estate. She takes on the role of President and adds the skills of Alexandre Abel to second her. Her nephew William Ponsot-Jacquin joins them in 2019 and completes the management team of the estate.
2022 – Today, the estate remains entirely family owned and the different entities of the estate are in the hands of the fourth generation of the Ponsot family, the children of Jean-Marie and Jacqueline Ponsot: Laurent, Rose-Marie, Catherine and Stéphanie PONSOT. Their children and nephews, the fifth generation are now beginning to come on board.
The Domaine Ponsot winemakers:
Prior to 1922 William Ponsot was the wine maker. All wines at that time were sold in cask and no wines were bottled.
From 1922 to 1952, Hippolyte Ponsot was the winemaker.
From 1953 to 1982, Jean-Marie Ponsot was solely responsible for the wine making.
Between 1983 up to 1997, Jean-Marie worked together with his son Laurent Ponsot.
From 1998 up to 2016, Laurent Ponsot was the winemaker.
From 2017 to the present day, Alexandre Abel is the cellar master.
The Jubilee Tasting
On May 19th 2022, a group of journalists gathered around the table at Domaine Ponsot for a unique once in a lifetime tasting of 15 vintages of Clos de la Roche ranging from 2017 to 1934 and 15 vintages of Morey Saint Denis Monts Luisants Blanc ranging from 2019 to 1961. The oldest wines came from the private cellar of the Ponsot family. A memorable experience where all the wines reflected the excellent aging conditions. Throughout the catalogue you will find my tasting notes from that tasting. Leading Burgundy critics have also published comprehensive articles on this tasting.
