CLOS DE VOUGEOT
The Clos de Vougeot, whose name comes from the Vouge, a small river which has its source above the village, is the work of the 12th century monks of Cîteaux (the Cistercians). Celebrated throughout the world, this vineyard lies in the heart of the Côte de Nuits in the commune of Vougeot. It rises gently from 240 to 265m in altitude, starting from the plain of Bresse, at the bottom of the slope to the Grands Crus Musigy and Grands-Echezeaux, at the beginning of the Combe d'Orveau.
Today, the names of the climates that make up the Clos de Vougeot have in principle disappeared, the AOC recognizing only one wine and on a single plot. That being said, the upper part of the slope is known for producing full-bodied wines with aromas of red fruits, violets and truffles which are recognized as being finer and more delicate than those produced further down the slope. The Ponsot Clos de Vougeot comes from the lieux-dits Quatorze Journaux and Maupertui.
