Lot Essay

In the 1990’s, when Cartier decided to launch a limited edition of ultra-complicated wristwatches, the company contracted Gerard Genta to design and execute it. Gerard Genta was a legendary designer responsible for some of the most memorable watch cases, such as Patek Philippe’s Nautilius, Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak and many others. Genta, who had already designed the Pasha case for Cartier’s simple watches, was challenged with an adaptation of Pasha to a super complicated movement, as well as to design the dial. The result was stunning, the most complicated Cartier wristwatch produced. The watch is an exceptionally rare example of a partnership between Cartier and Gerald Genta.
