A PRIVATE COLLECTION OF RARE MADEIRA FROM A HIGHLY RESPECTED CONNOISSEUR
Recently removed from a private cellar on Madeira. All bottles have been recorked by Francisco Albuquerque and have his seal - "FMA".
JCA "Joao Carlos Aguiar", Terrantez 1715
Madeira
Recorked in 2022 by Francisco Albuquerque. New wax capsule with FMA seal. Old Burgundy shape bottle with faded stencilling. Small slip label. Level: 3.5cm
In old Burgundy bottle. Aged for about 50 years in cask, about 150 gr/l residual sugar.
Believed to be the oldest dated Madeira in existence.
Tasting note: The last five years I have tasted this wine on regular intervals over seven times. Each time an impressive experience. Deep dark orange colour.
Intense crème brulee nose, soft and refined. Wood, spice cake, sweet dried peach aromas. Seductive and sweet. Fairly full bodied taste attack of apple syrup filling out in the mouth. Thick intensely flavored. Well balanced with soft acidity, very concentrated.
Nice wine appearing remarkably youthful and surprisingly sweet for a Terrantez.
The acidity is all packed in which makes the wine appear more in the style of a fine Malaga. Great for age. Amazing to be able to drink and very much enjoy a wine of over 300 years old. Last tasted June 2017. Edwin Vos
