First edition in English, a bilingual translation in a contemporary binding. Theophilus de Garencières, a French apothecary and occultist living in England, provided the first English translation of the famous prophecies of Nostradramus, along with explanations for each (with a few exceptions for those entries either too obvious to require it or too obscure to interpret). ESTC R13646; Wing N-1399.
Folio (292 x 190mm). Title printed in red and black, engraved frontispiece (frontispiece backed with light stain in top margin, title lightly soiled, marginal ink stains on G1 and 3O1-2, short marginal tears without loss to d1 and final leaf, d1 with ?remains of old paper repair in margin, variable light spotting and staining, light dampstain at foot of gutter just into text throughout). Modern brown half morocco, gilt edges (light stain to morocco backstrip on upper cover, extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: Francis Wood (early ink ownership inscription at head of title)
