It is very unusual to find a jadeite table screen of this large size and quality. The generous proportions of the jadeite panel, the finely carved relief decoration to both sides and the intricately worked lacquer stand all point to this having been a lavish commission for a wealthy member of China's elite. It is unusual for a screen to be supported by such a finely carved lacquer stand as hardwood stands were much more commonplace. The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge has an uncarved lavender and green jadeite screen, 48.8 cm high, with an inlaid zitan stand from the Oscar C. Raphael Bequest, O.85 - 1946. An apple-green jadeite landscape table screen from the Qianlong period, 21.2 cm wide, from the collection of Florence and Herbert Irving at the Metropolitan Museum of Art sold at Sotheby's New York, 10 September 2019, lot 10 while a large but uncarved lavender and green jadeite 'inscribed' table screen, 19th century, 42 cm. high, from the Brooklyn Museum, New York, sold at Sotheby's New York, 17 March 2021, lot 24.
