etching, circa 1630, on laid paper, watermark Phoenix in Laurel Wreath (M.-H. 252), a very fine, early impression of the first state (of seven), before letters and background and before the scratches and foul-biting were burnished out, inscribed in brown ink with the sitter's name, profession and place of birth, with wide margins, some creasing in places, otherwise generally in very good condition
