It is interesting to compare the funerary decorations of the same church in Florence for two different occasions, respectively the ceremonies relating to the death of two Habsburg rulers, Margaret of Austria, Queen of Spain and Portugal (1584-1611) and the death of Emperor Ferdinand II (1578-1637). Both Cosimo II and Ferdinando II de' Medici, Grand-Dukes of Tuscany, felt compelled or obliged to mark these events with elaborate ceremonies in their city, far away from the Imperial capital.
