The wide fillet across Dionysus' forehead and the elaborate wreath of vine leaves, grapes, ivy and berries position this head as a version of the “Horti Lamiani” type, named for a statue of the god found at that villa in Rome and now in the Palazzo dei Conservatori (see no. 123a in C. Gasparri, “Dionysos,” LIMC, vol. III.) For another example, see also the statue at Holkam Hall, no. 12 in The Holkam Collection of Classical Sculptures.
