Lot Essay

From a sarcophagus lid panel, the scene preserves a prostrate charioteer wearing a ribbed leather corselet, two horses, two togates and two other figures carved in low relief in the background. For a similar example, see fig. 208 in J. Ronke, Magistratische Repräsentation im römischen Relief.
