An amusing Victorian novelty four-piece condiment set
comprising: a trefoil-shaped dish moulded with simulated basketwork and with a rope-twist border and three handles, containing three kittens with realistically-chased fur and with bows around their necks, each one holding an oblong label engraved: "Salt, Pepper and Mustard", the two former examples with pierced detachable covers, the mustard pot with hinged cover, the three condiments Robert Hennell, London 1875, the basket James Barclay Hennell, London 1878, each also with a diamond patent registration mark, the basket with a vacant circular cartouche - 3½in. (9cm.) wide, the kittens 3in. (7.75cm.) high, 15.50oz.; and a white-metal condiment spoon with ball terminal.
