During the early start of the Second World War, Winifred Nicholson went to live with her parents at Boothby, near Brampton, Cumberland. Here she often painted the view from her rooms looking north east towards the Bewcastle Fells. For another depiction of the same view, see The Hunter’s Moon, 1955 (Tate, London).
