the cover pierced and punch decorated, the centre decorated with a rosette within an outer dotted flowerhead motif, the petals intersected by further foliate motif within outer dotted borders, the punched date 169.. (the last number indistinct, possibly a 3), below the maker's mark CAP within a rectangle, the flattened wrought iron handle knop terminal and hook suspension, English, late 17th century -- 12in. (30.5cm) diam, length overall -- 44in. (111.7cm)

The maker's mark is that of Charles Appelby. Apprenticed in 1683, first recorded in the Court of the Company of the Armourers and Braziers in 1720.
