A large Coptic textile fragment of a clavus strip
from one side of a tunic with finished lower edge and remains of the neck opening, the vertical band showing dancing youths, huntsmen and winged putti within continuous vine scroll medallions, various stylized animals including lions and deer at either side within vine tendrils, broad plain dark border with outer foliate finial motifs, black details against undyed background, framed and glazed -- 37 x 10in. (94 x 25.5cm.), circa 6th Century A.D.
