Visually stunning, this 5320G has a cream lacquered dial with, as confirmed by the Certificate of Origin, “Laque Ivoire Arabes Noirs SLN” - solid non-luminous charcoal-coloured numerals. Furthermore, the luminous circular outer indexes and ‘syringe’ hands are also framed in charcoal to match the numerals. The overall aesthetic is amazingly attractive and, of course, unlike any other known example of the reference. The owner of the Ultimate Collection specially requested Patek Philippe to design and manufacture this dial as a one-off piece. The idea to order a special and unique dial for the reference 5320G was sparked by the sight of a unique vintage steel reference 1591 Perpetual Calendar, manufactured in 1944, sold by Christie’s Geneva in 2007. The owner was privileged to have the request granted to commission his perfect unique piece as a highly esteemed and valued client of Patek Philippe and in his capacity as one of the world’s great watch collectors and devotees of the brand. Now other collectors will have the once-only chance to add this awesome stand-alone reference 5320G to their own collection.
Reference 5320G
Ref. 5320 was launched in 2017 and is produced exclusively in white gold, featuring a cream-lacquered dial. It is highly appreciated for its immediately apparent vintage styling, paying tribute to Patek Philippe’s ‘golden age’ mid-20th century perpetual calendar watches for which the company has been famed since 1941. Indeed, the twin in-line day/month aperture at 12 o’clock and the moon-phase aperture at 6’oclock are characteristics of those early perpetual calendar watches. The very beautiful curved and stepped lugs are a superb feature of the reference and are widely considered as the most attractive of any modern Patek Philippe. Of course, resolutely modern technology comes into play with the movement caliber 324 SQ which features an extremely accurate moon phase that requires a one-day correction only once every 122 years. Reference 5320G also includes two practical and unobtrusive round apertures, one for day/night indication between 7 and 8 o’clock and another for the leap-year cycle between 4-5 o’clock.
