Property from the former collection of Mr du Gardin, FranceMr du Gardin engaged in the imported wine and cosmetic business in China in the 1940s, and was captivated by the Chinese art and culture. During his time in China, he would attend salons hosted by other French people in China and was introduced to and acquired many paintings by artists such as Liu Haisu (1896-1994), Xu Beihong (1895-1953), Huang Binhong (1864-1955), Qi Baishi (1863-1957) and Lin Fengmian (1900-1991) etc. He collecting plentiful works of Chinese modern paintings and works of art. Previously, in June 2018, we sold a painting by Qi Baishi (lot 43) and Xu Beihong (lot 42) and in 2017 a Qi Baishi and a Huang Binhong, also from the collection of Mr du Gardin.
