MARK OF JOHN SCOFIELD, LONDON, 1790
In the Adam style, vase-shaped on spreading circular foot chased with a band of stiff leaf foliage, rising to a calyx of chased radiating palmettes, the stem with palmette knop, the lower body chased with flutes below an applied Vitruvian scroll and honeysuckle border, applied above with floral garlands hung from paterae, the reeded loop handles with acanthus terminals, the spool-shaped cover chased with a band of ribbon-tied floral garlands and bud finial, engraved on rim of cover with an inscription, marked on base and cover
201/2 in. (52 cm.) high
104 oz. 11 dwt. (3,252 gr.)
The inscription reads: 'In memory of the sincere and lasting friendship which subsisted between George Paterson of Castle Huntley, Esq.r and the late Alexander Callander of Crichton, Esq.r, this cup is respectfully presented by the brothers of the deceased, John and David Callander, 1792'.

Presented to George Paterson (1734-1817), of Castle Huntley, Forfars, by Sir John Callander (1739-1812) of Westertown and David Callander (1742-1798), the brothers of Alexander Callander (1741-1792) of Crichton and Prestonhall.
