DUDLEY MAJORIBANKS, 1ST BARON TWEEDMOUTH
His father was a partner in Coutts Bank, however the partnership passed to Dudley's elder brother when the father died at the age of ninety-two. Dudley went into business acquiring the Meux Brewery and becoming a director of the East India Company. He bought the Guisachan Estate, near Inverness in 1856. He sat as a Liberal in the House of Commons from 1853 until 1880, when he was elevated to the peerage as Baron Tweedmouth. He is credited as having bred the first golden retriever when he crossed a wavy-coated retriever with a Tweed water spaniel. He was succeeded by his son Edward Marjoribanks, 2nd Baron Tweedmouth, K.T. (1849-1909).
