First edition, a complete set of all 14 fascicles; rare. Auction records (RBH) list only one other at auction: the Martin copy (Sotheby's, 12 December 1989, lot 1778). The plates include animals from Siberia and Central Asia, like the Kyrgyz ram, and birds brought from Kamchatka and Bering Island to St. Petersburg by Georg Wilhelm Steller. 14 parts in one volume, quarto (240 x 195mm). 58 engraved plates, some folding, by Glassbach and Schuster after Schouman, Hiller, Decker and others (without the blanks, and without the general title dated 1774 found in some copies, some plates with creases near the fore-edge). 19th-century half calf, spine gilt, red morocco label, edges red (corners rubbed). Provenance: W. Th. Vrolik (book label, ownership signature dated 1865 and inscription recording the purchase from R. Friedländer of Berlin, light marginalia).
