A very rare copy one of the most authoritative works on moths and butterflies of the 19th century. The work was originally published in 4 parts. A member of the Linnean Society, Haworth was an influential scientist in the fields of entomology, botany and carcinology. This particular copy belonged to Eustace R. Bankes (1861-1929), another important entomologist. BM(NH) II, 804; Freeman, British Natural History Books 1599.

4 parts in one volume, quarto (215 x 140mm). Pp. 531-532 from the Annals and Magazine of Natural History vol. (1932) tipped in at beginning explaining the complicated bibliography and publishing history of the work, general title with final date of 1828 added in ink manuscript, errata leaf bound between parts 1 and 2, part-title to final part present with the corrected spelling on verso forming p.512 of the work (some variable faint spotting). Later half calf (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: Eustace R. Bankes (ownership inscription dated 1910).
