Vintage black and white stage photograph of Billie Holiday by Nat Singerman, early 1950s, signed in white ink ‘Billie Holiday’.

Singerman was a professional photographer and co-owner of Character Arts Photo Studio in Cleveland, Ohio, in the 1940s and 50s. During this period, he met and befriended many of the jazz greats who made appearances at clubs in and around Cleveland and Chicago, photographing their performances on stage as well as taking candid shots backstage. The musicians would later sign the 8x10” prints for Singerman, often using the white ink that he provided.
