SHAYBANID BUKHARA, UZBEKISTAN, CIRCA 1560

The Bukhara school of painting flourished under the patronage of the Shaybanids in the 16^th century. Characterised by a bright palette, gold skies and fine details the school is strongly informed by the painting and manuscript production of the atelier of Sultan Husayn Bayqara (1470-1506) in Herat. Another 16^th century Bukhara illustration, albeit slightly earlier, was sold in these Rooms, 27 October 2022, lot 41.
