OTTOMAN BALKANS, EARLY 17TH CENTURY

The Ottoman Empire’s primary source of silver came from the Balkan nations. Serbia’s richest mine, Novo Brdo, fell to the Ottoman Empire in 1455, and in 1463 Mehmet the Conqueror seized control of Bosnia and it’s largest mine, Srebrenica.
