The only Norwegian sailing ship named Gunhild (sic) noted in Lloyd's Register for 1908 is a small wooden brig of 1880 and clearly not the vessel portrayed here. By a remarkable conincidence however, Gunhild was lost in 1908 whilst carrying a cargo of pitprops, possibly the deck cargo of the vessel in Jacobsen's painting judging by the timbers which have been washed off her in the severe weather.
